Digital Commons CFP

Call for Projects of the Digital Commons Initiative of the NYU Department of English: http://nyu.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_6KyqlwwyiszE3oE

The first deadline is June 1, and there will additional rolling deadlines on September 15, December 15, and February 1 of the coming academic year.  At least one applicant must have an affiliation with the NYU Department of English in order to apply.

Through the generosity of Kevin Brine, the Department of English is developing a digital commons — a website and virtual space to support, showcase, and publicize the work we do, and to more generally facilitate engagement with the departmental community. The primary goal of the digital commons Initiative is to develop content of the Department’s research and teaching for a digital platform, giving faculty and students opportunities to adapt traditional forms of scholarly communication and pedagogy for the digital age. It might provide a space in which we can facilitate the student course projects or publish outstanding work, a forum where working groups can collaborate, a showcase for digital exhibitions growing out of the research initiatives in the department, a hub for streaming of events and conferences, etc. It will be an interactive space that fosters on-line and off-line participation in the life of the department, that cultivates life-long learning of our students, and that helps to define the department’s identity at NYU and within the profession as we move into a new physical home. The Department will be developing its digital commons in partnership with University Libraries and the College of Arts of Sciences, both of which hope to use this initiative as a prototype for ways in which their units might help departments at NYU integrate digital and social media into their teaching and research. NYU Libraries will be offering dedicated support for this initiative.
