Welcome to the Humanities Initiative

The National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipends Program

The National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipends Program is an opportunity for faculty in the humanities to receive a stipend to carry out research over a two-month period.  New York University may submit two proposals; nominees may be either senior or junior faculty. Awardees receive $6,000 for two consecutive summer months of full-time research and writing.

We would like to encourage faculty to consider applying for this prestigious fellowship by submitting no later than July 7, 2009 a pre-proposal of no more than two pages and a short (two-page) c.v.  to Asya Berger at the Humanities Initiative, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. In the event that more than two proposals are received, a committee will be constituted in order to select two proposals for further elaboration. The two NYU finalists will be notified on August 5, 2009; their full proposals are due on October 1, 2009 for submission to and consideration by the NEH.
