Welcome to the Humanities Initiative

NYU Lectures in the Humanities Print E-mail

In order to foster the dissemination of humanistic scholarship and to bring a wide range of NYU faculty and students to its space in 20 Cooper Square, the Humanities Initiative co-sponsors lectures with individual departments and schools (who have already arranged for a distinguished speaker to give a talk). The Initiative offers the use of its conference room (theater-style seating for up to 70) without charge and contributes up to $1,500 toward a small reception and/or dinner following the talk. For consideration, a brief application by the department or school must be submitted by the deadline below.

Eligibility
All departments and schools at NYU are encouraged to apply, especially those outside "traditional" humanities arenas. The Initiative is especially interested in hosting speakers who can address audiences not limited to a single area or specialization.

Application format
For consideration, a brief application by the department or school must be submitted, including:

  1. Name and brief c.v. (no more than two pages) of the proposed speaker
  2. Sponsors and likely audience
  3. Paragraph with the proposed title of the talk and a description of the topic
  4. Likely dates for the talk (it would be helpful to propose more than one date in case of conflict)

Application deadlines
Applications for the NYU Lectures in the Humanities are due no later than Wednesday, September 15, 2010 for fall talks and Monday, December 6, 2010 for spring talks. Please e-mail the application as a Word document attachment to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
